Thursday, Jan. 16, 2205 Event UPDATE –
Organizers met Thursday evening and confirmed that the Annual Eagle Point Loppet is on and it looks like we will be able to offer good snow and trail conditions for classic on Saturday and very good fast conditions for Sunday.”
A few important changes to the earlier Race notice and Event Notice
- 45 km skiers will drop down to the 30 km event .. the formal race will end sooner with the colder weather and be easier on both skiers and course controllers. However, we will leave the big outdoor timing clock running and our safety personnel and sweepers on hand for anyone who wants to do the third lap and self-time on our official clock.
RACE START TIMES:
All event starts will be pushed back by 1 hour to ensure we catch the warmest part of the day (Forecasts indicate reasonable / acceptable temperatures over the race period).
- 30 km start at 12:00 noon
- 15 km start at 12:02 pm
- 5 km start at 12:15 pm
- 1 and 2 km kids fun races start at 2:30 pm
Race package pickup: 10:30 am to 11:30 am
STAYING WARM:
PLEASE dress for the cold weather – however we can help … Pembina Nordic offers TWO heated chalet warming facilities. Both the timber frame Rustic Chalet, and two floors of the New Outdoor Ed Centre feature big wood stoves and will be open and available for warming, and cosy changing. With moderate numbers, we can fit everyone in. There will be more space in the inner parking lot, shorter walks etc. BUT NO INDOOR WAXING in either facility.
As well:
- our big outdoor fire pit will be on, and
- at the control station and refreshment table at the start-end of the north loop for 15 km we will have a heated outfitters tent for any cold skiers (and our volunteers !).
SNOW … YES WE DO HAVE DECENT SNOW
We have a good hard base and did not groom during the last week of warm weather which has preserved snow. We will now renovate and results from today were really good .. we may even get to blend in a cm or two of fresh snow. The Classic track will be decent and fresh but will have a few shallow spots and some wind-blown debris. The skating lanes, where renovated today are quite good and with the base and the cool weather should be really good for Sunday.
Hope to see you there !
